Key Things I’m Doing As We Enter The New Year

I have sat around for the last week doing nothing and I’m not mad about it. My routine has gone out the window, I haven’t exercised and I’m basically 90% chocolate panettone right now.

If you’re like me and this is how your last week (or maybe even month) has been I want you to be kind to yourself. It’s so easy to fall into the trap of being mean to yourself but it doesn’t change anything, it only leaves you feeling worse.

These things I’m doing as we enter the new year aren’t to punish me or force myself into “New Year, New Me” mode. I’m doing them because they make me feel good and get me excited for the new year.

1.     Physically Organising Things

It always feels really good to have a bit of a sort out, get organised and create space for new incredible things to come into your life. For me this is looking like… organising my kitchen cupboards, taking items I no longer need to the charity shop and sorting out our living room shelves.

Exercise:

▫ Is there anything in your home that you’ve been meaning to get organised for a while, could you find some time to do that over the next month?

▫ Is there anything that you could take to the charity shop?

2.     Coming Back to My Routine

The last couple of days I’ve gently been coming back to a bit of a routine, waking up at a time that feels good for me, doing a Pilates session in the morning, drinking 3.5 litres of water, listening to a hypnotherapy session as I go to sleep. I see this as easing myself back in and connecting to what helps me feel my best.

Exercise:

▫ Make a list of your morning/daily/evening routine.

▫ Going into the new year do these routines still feel good for you (remembering that you can always change)?

▫ How can you start to ease yourself back into your routine (remembering you don’t need to go from nothing to everything – this is about easing yourself in)?

3.     Setting Goals/Intentions

I love to spend some time getting excited about all the things I’m going to achieve in the new year, which usually involves lighting one of my favourite candles, listening to music, getting a big pad and pens out to set some yearly goals/intentions.

Exercise:

▫ Answer the following questions to help you start thinking about your goals/intentions for the year.

▫ What would you love to achieve in the next year?

▫ How would you love to feel?

▫ What would you feel incredibly proud of yourself for doing?

▫ What goals would have the biggest positive impact on your life?

4.     Creating a Vision Board

I love creating a vision board which I set as the background for my laptop and phone for the year with images that make me feel really good and relate to my goals/intentions. I love to use Pinterest and Canva for this.

Exercise:

▫ Go onto Pinterest and find images that align with your goals/intentions and make you feel excited.

▫ Use the images you’ve collated to create a vision board on Canva to use as your phone and laptop background.

5.     Belief work

Last but definitely not least, I work on my beliefs. Belief work is an ongoing process and I’m always thinking about how I can upgrade my beliefs so they support me in achieving my goals.

Exercise:

▫ Create a new set of empowering beliefs for the year which align to your goals by answering - what does the version of me who has achieved all their goals believe?

▫ Think about how you can implement these new beliefs into your life.

I know January can sometimes feel like a lot of pressure so I want to emphasise that this isn’t another list of things you have to do. These are things that I do, which you can use if they feel helpful. Remember January is just another month, you’ve got this, I believe in you and have so much faith in you!
